Do you wonder how much it costs to build something you’ve designed, rather than something factory-made?
We get a lot of questions about how much a complete dock system costs, and want to help you make your decision! While there’s no hard and fast rule about how much a custom dock costs, it may be more affordable than you think!
There are three main components of total cost of a custom dock design:
- Dock Decking: When we help our clients choose a dock material, we consider the location of the dock, the average climate in that area, how the dock will be used, and the overall budget. Each of these considerations can affect the cost of the dock. You want a dock within your budget, but one that lasts the test of time. There are dock materials that are cheaper than others, but make sure you choose something that is going to last in your climate and environment.
- Dock design: Other than the type of dock material you choose, you need to consider other dock elements like dock bumpers, utilities, lighting, railing, and launches. When thinking about the best option for your project, think about the balance between cost, length of life, and stability.
- Size: As the size of your custom dock increases or decreases, cost isn’t the only element of your project affected. Usability will also be affected - if the dock is too narrow or too short, it could be unsafe for boaters. Make sure you read up on your area’s restrictions to see if any additional size regulations affect you, or if more permits are needed.
A few more items to consider in your total cost are the delivery and installation of your custom boat dock. At Alumi-Span, we sell our own high-quality dock sections, accessories, and parts. We’re your one stop shop for everything boat docks!
